Unless you are pregnant or obese you should not feel that guilty about eating chocolate. You can sneak it into your daily diet because studies are showing that it is actually excellent for your overall heath. After years of being maligned it is finally getting a rep as a health food.
This is because container has known chocolate over three hundred active chemical agents. These agents are all beneficial for health.
Believe it or not eating chocolate can be good for your teeth because they have antibacterial agents that fight tooth decay in them. This is truer of pure chocolate. The high sugar content of milk chocolate can actually cause tooth decay.
The smell of chocolate is also beneficial. It can relax you, which is good for PMS. That is also why it can calm down a hyperactive kid, but ONLY if there is not too much sugar in it. I like chocolate milk for calming kids down. Chocolate also contains phenyl ethylamine, which is a mild mood elevator
Scientists have also found that the cocoa butter in chocolate contains oleic acid, a mono-unsaturated fat that lowers bad cholesterol and may raise good cholesterol.
You can also try drinking a cup of hot chocolate before you eat. This helps diminish your need for calories. This is a trick I used to lose my post pregnancy weight. Make sure that the milk is low fat as in skim or 1% or you could gain weight despite your good intentions.
Weirdly, chocolate can also prevent heart attacks. The flavanoids in chocolate keep blood vessels elastic. It also increase antioxidant levels in the blood. Men who eat chocolate, for instance, live a year longer then men who don’t.
Why do you crave it when you are feeling depressed? The carbohydrates in chocolate raise serotonin levels in the brain, resulting in a sense of over-all well-being.
It’s full of antioxidants. They help fight the free radicals which can attack DNA and cause long term serious damage to body. This means that eating chocolate makes cancer and heart attacks less likely. So the more antioxidants that you and your family eat the longer you are likely to live and chocolate is the absolutely richest source of them. The darker the chocolate the better it is for you and the richer it is in antioxidants. In fact the darker any type of food is, especially the fruits, the more likely it is to contain antioxidants.
Dark chocolate also contains catchetins which are what is in tea. Catchetins keep the immune system healthy. Chocolate is alos a good source of magnesium and copper, both of which help the brain as well as help a person maintain a regular heart rate.
Buy some great chocolate at this store.
A slow cooker can be your best friend. It saves time and it is perfect for the working mom who wants to come home to a nutritious hot meal. The non-working mom will also appreciate how handy it is. If you have one gathering dust on a shelf it is time to dig it out, clean it and search for recipes.
All I do is cut up some meat and vegetables and throw it in the slow cooker while I am at work. There are ton of things that you can make in a slow cooker including soups, pudding, casseroles, stews, curries and chilis. Some really efficient mothers sometimes have two slow cookers going at once – one for the main dish and the other for desserts. You can get these slow cookers in different sizes as well.
A slow cooker also uses less electricity than a standard electric oven. Another benefit is that you can use a very cheap cut of meat as it tenderizes the meat.
In the summer I don’t mind using a slow cooker as it prevents the kitchen from getting too hot. Stuff baking in the oven can definitely raise the temperature sky high.
Another good thing about a slow cooker is that it does not need stirring. You just leave it and it takes care of itself. It is so low maintenance it is ridiculous. Also, incredibly. Also the food does not dry out at all like it would if you cook into tan oven. The slow cooker is also great for cooking puddings, custards and cakes with creamy insides.
One thing I found is that the food turns out better if you preheat the slow cooker before adding ingredients. Make sure you brown any meat before adding it to the cooker so it looks more attractive. This is especially true of meat like chicken which can look a little rubbery or unpleasant if it is not browned.
Another thing I have learned is to not peek under the lid. The more you do that the more you add cooking time to the whole ordeal. I also am sure to soak the pot after each time I use it as lifting the lid on the pot can add fifteen to twenty minutes onto cooking time.
It is also crucial not to fill the cooker too full. Slicing and dining up vegetables is also a good idea. The smaller the pieces are the faster they will cook.
Thaw out everything before slow cooking. Failure to do so could actually cause food poisoning. Be sure to test chicken or large cuts of meat with a meat thermometer to make sure it is done.
A slow cooker is not really intended to reheat food. It does not get hot enough quick enough for that. Instead use your slow to simmer and cook in stages and use the microwave to get food really hot.
A migraine is a type of vascular headache. It is caused by blood vessels dilating and causing severe pain. This agonizing pain needs to treated, yet that can be a challenge if your are pregnant. It is the volume of blood in the vessels going to the head that causes all of the throbbing as well as other symptoms like blurry vision, nausea and literally “not being able to see straight.” People with migraines, including pregnant women can also experience severe throbbing pain on one side of the head and see zing sags or weird lights.
For some reason some women with migraines see them disappear altogether when they get pregnant. However curing a migraine is not a good reason to conceive! Other women never experience a migraine and finally do for the first time when they get pregnant.
Thankfully a migraine is not a threat to a fetus. However if you are getting severe throbbing pain in the head then you need to confirm that is not from another type of cause from a physician.
You don’t want to take any heavy painkillers or drugs while having a pregnancy migraine and one of the most effective treatments is rest, darkness and peace and quiet. The sooner that you lie down and isolate yourself after the initial symptoms start the more of a chance you have of shortening the duration of the pain.
The best treatment is prevention. You need to avoid common dietary triggers such as cheese, chocolate, and coffee. Food preservatives, nitrates in meat and sulfites in canned foods and wines can also be culprits. Loud noises, lack of sleep, lack of eating, low blood sugar and flickering or bright lights can also cause a migraine.
Stress is often the cause so relaxation technique such as meditation, yoga and deep breathing can help. Cold packs on the forehead and on the neck also help. An acupuncture treatment or massage performed by a prenatal massage therapist could also help reduce the frequency and pain of menstrual headaches.
You should not take either over-the counter or prescription medications. Studies show that caffeine can trigger them so stay away from coke and coffee. Drugs like Tylonel 3, which contain a lot of caffeine are out of the question. That is also why chocolate is not a good idea. It too contains caffeine and also theomobrine which is known to trigger headaches.
Triggers for migraines differ from person to person so it is important to maintain a diary of what is provoking them. Remember too there are always treatment options that you may not have heard of. Some doctors recommend drinking water. Even a remedy like Tiger Balm might be of assistance. Another remedy is Ginger tea. I say, whatever works, as these hormonally triggered headaches can be quite painful.
Sooner or later you are going to find yourself having to take a plane trip with your kids. This is a nightmare because for your kid it amounts to being a small limited space within in which there is nothing to do for a really long time. No wondered thy become so whiny, noisy and annoying on these trips.
There is no way of stopping the plane so your kids can get out and run around or stretch their legs. They have to make do in the small cabin. Most moms know that this means annoying the other passengers by running up an d down again.
Hopefully the airlines you go on will have some form of electronic entertainment. Most seats have a television, even if you are flying in economy class. Try and choose seats where it is easy for your kids to see the television. I have even used an ordinary camcorder to entertain my kids on a long flight. I let them film. It keeps them amused for hours. For them looking in the viewfinder is the equivalent of watching television. A laptop with a DVD player or a portable DVD player can also keep your kids amused for many hours. Just be sure to charge those batteries before the plane takes off.
Of course if you are really lucky you will have kid stat enjoy reading books. I have a kid like that. My teenager reads. I can give her anything from a MAD magazine to Wuthering Heights and she will settle down with it on the plane.
Unfortunately most kids find airplane food yucky unless it is packaged in a really neat way. Tell the stewardess that you would rather that they don’t drink sugary drinks like coke as that can inspire them to start yelling and screaming and running up and down the aisles.
You should bring your own food just in case your kids can’t stomach the airplane stuff. Also I have found that most stewardesses are happy to warm up milk for you if need be.
The other big issue is pain in the ears from pressurizing during liftoff and landing. If they are really young they can get in a lot of pain. Encourage your children to keep chewing gum or drink with a straw to minimize the pressure.
You should also be careful of what toys you give them to play with on the plane. Plane cabins are small. You don’t want musical instruments or pocket video games that are too noisy. You don’t want glue or anything that can create a huge mess. Usually crayons are okay if the kids are old enough. However they are a bad idea if you think your kid is going to start putting his or her own graffiti all over the seats.
Temperature in airplanes tends to be chilly so be sure to bring sweaters and blankets so that they do not suffer from chattering teeth.
